Gunks 9/9/01: Yellow Ridge, Near Trapps

September 9, 2001, Cheryl and I went to the Gunks for some climbing in the Near Trapps. Cheryl lead Gelsa (5.4), and I led Yellow Ridge (5.7). We decided that the first pitch of Gelsa wasn't anything to write home about, and Cheryl had some trouble finding the wandering route, but we liked the last pitch up the corner. Of course, Yellow Ridge was the wonderful classic it's advertised to be, but I screwed up the location of the first belay ledge because folks on another climb had taken up the usual belay ledge. We ended up wasting time setting up anchors on intermediate ledges for short distances. Kind of forgot how short the 2nd pitch was, moving the anchor to a bigger ledge 15 feet over seemed like half the pitch! Oh well, but the last pitch was still so fine!

Ethan was climbing nearby with Ed and Becky and we met up with him afterwards for some beers by the van and pizza dinner.

Oh, and I neglected to include the "interesting" self-portrait of Cheryl's body parts that mysteriously appeared on my camera. But at the right price... heh heh... Watch out if you leave an unattended camera around Badkitty!
